FAQS

1. How do I get my student cleared to participate in a sport?

Every student attending Sheldon High School who plans on competing in an OSAA sport or club needs to fill out the proper paperwork before they officially can practice with the team. The forms are available on the website under the "forms/fees" page or in the athletic/attendance office. The athletic department also offers sports registration night in the cafeteria before every sports season for parents and students to turn in their paperwork and pay their participation fee's. Look under "Events" on the home page for specific dates and times for sports registration nights.

2. What are the rules for getting a foreign exchange student cleared?

The rules are the same as any other Sheldon student, except there is an extra form that is required to be filled out from the OSAA by the host family and final approval from the athletic director to make sure the foreign exchange program is CSIET approved. You can download the "Eligible Student Transfer Certificate" form under "forms/fees" page and meet with the athletic director at sports registration night or set-up another meeting time.

3. How long are the sports physicals good for? Can I use an out of state physical form? What about a foreign exchange student?

Sports physicals are good for 2 years. Every 2 years, student-athletes will be required to update their physical. State approved forms can be downloaded under "forms/fees" page. You can check with Blythe Wardwell if you are not sure if we have a physical on file or when it will expire. Student-athletes may not practice or compete with any team without a current physical. Out of state and foreign exchange student physical forms will not work and students will be expected to take another physical with the "Oregon physical form" before they may participate on a team.

4. What are the participation fee's? Is the 3rd sport free? Why are club sport fee's a different price?

4j participation fees vary for team sports, individual sports, etc... (Please see fee document under "forms/fees" tab).  Athletes are also required to purchase the annual $30 asb sticker for their student body card. This sticker allows students to attend local contests and dances at a reduced rate. You are not required to pay a participation fee for your third sport as long as all three sports teams are not club status. If your child competes on a team that is considered at "club status" in 4j school district, then the participation fee maybe higher. Club status teams and activities are zero funded by the school district requiring a higher participation fee to help cover operating costs.

5. How do I find out about my child's game or practice schedule?

The current game schedule can now be viewed on this website. Click on "teams/Clubs" tab and scroll down to your preferred team. Click the "Schedule" tab. You can copy and paste the schedule and print on a word document if needed. You can also click on "highschoolsports.net" at the bottom of the schedule to view more information. Your child's coach should provide you with a practice schedule and any changes throughout the season.

6. How do I order a team spirit item from my child's specific sport?

You will need to order all team apparel and other team specific items through the head coach or team manager. You can contact the coach and/or team manager under the "contact" tab in their team page.

7. Who do I contact for team fundraisers?

8. Where and when do I turn in my child's uniform? Can we keep the uniform?

4j school district requires that all team uniforms that are purchased by the school are to be turned in immediately following the completion of the season. Please turn in all school uniforms and equipment to the coaching staff by the end of the year banquet. You can also turn in uniforms and equipment to the athletic/attendance office as needed.

9. When are team pictures? What if Life touch gets my order wrong?

We will post the Team pictures under the "Events" section on the home page. Your child's coach will have more specific picture times and will be handing out picture packets a few days before the date of the team/individual pictures. Please allow 4-6 weeks for pictures to be delivered. If the picture order is incorrect for some reason? You will need to contact Lifetouch directly.

10. Why should I attend the mandatory 4j parent meeting at the beginning of each season?

4j requires all head coaches to provide an opportunity for a parent meeting at the beginning of every season. It is important to attend so you can meet your child's coach in person, hear his/her overall program philosophy, tryout policy for teams that need to make cuts, practice schedules, athlete expectations, team spirit apparel, etc...
